FREE KINDLE E-BOOK ALERT: WHEN WILL THE SKY FALL? Hurricane Katrina, A Documentary In Poetry by Brad Bechler
WHEN WILL THE SKY FALL? Hurricane Katrina, A Documentary In Poetry by Brad Bechler
In his new book, WHEN WILL THE SKY FALL? Former Ghost Writer Brad Bechler delves deep into the implications of what Hurricane Katrina uncovered in her wake. As a survivor of one of the memorable and costliest storms in recent memory in America, Brad takes a look back at his struggles, and the experiences of other survivors to create a dialogue of repairing relationships across Race and Class structures. His book gives a personal account of how one person’s life was turned upside down in a matter of hours, and with enduring consequences. “The purpose of my book is not to blame a natural disaster for doing what it does; it is the lack of human compassion and hierarchal positioning that concerns me if we are to call ourselves ‘One Nation Under God’”.
The events that transpired in the wake of the storm are the subject of this book , rendered as a Documentary in Poetry. Heavily influenced by the literary and poetic genius of the likes of Ann Sexton, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, etc., Bechler continues the Oral Tradition that is the hallmark of the African American History. He takes you on a journey from the earliest times of being Black in America, when dancing, singing, and feasting were the order of the day, to a small porch in the inner city New Orleans, to the aftermath of the storm, and the journey of separation, apathy, and subtle joy. WHEN WILL THE SKY FALL is ripe for the time. This is the season and moment that all Americans should seize in order to live out the legacy of those who fought for a Gray World.
